SELF-CONFIDENCE FORMULA First, I know that I have the ability to achieve the object of my definite purpose in life, therefore I DEMAND of myself persistent, continuous action toward its attainment and I here and now promise to render such action. Second, I realize the dominating thoughts of my mind will eventually reproduce themselves in outward, physical action and gradually transform themselves into physical reality, therefore, I will concentrate my thoughts for thirty minutes daily, upon the task of thinking of the person I intend to become, thereby creating in my mind a clear mental picture of that person. Third, I know through the principle of auto-suggestion, any desire that I persistently hold in my mind will eventually seek expression through some practical means of attaining the object back of it, therefore, I will devote 10 minutes daily to demanding of myself the development of self-confidence. Fourth, I have clearly written down a description of my definite chief a...

Last Breath

Image
Salam Have you ever wonder how your last breath will be like? How you gonna face the last breath of your loved ones? Since starting clinical year officially in November, I have experienced knowing that a soul has departed from a body. I was on call on that Sunday night, for the first time seeing a pleural tapping procedure at 9pm was done. The next morning, at 11am the doctor told us that the patient had poor prognosis and when we went to the ward, she was already gone. It was brief. Within one night, anything can happen. The patient actually had ascites due to liver metastases. When the pleural tapping was done, it was therapeutic for a while. However, at 4am the patient developed the symptom again together with shortness of breath. Since then, the doctor knew that the prognosis was uncertain. Tonight, I saw another scenario where doctors were doing bagging to the patient. All family members of the patient were along the corridor. MOs and specialist were busy contacting othe...

IKIGAI

IKIGAI The Japanese Secret to a Long and Happy Life is my next read. Ikigai means the reason of your living. According to Okinawans, the villagers with the most centenarians in the world, ikigai is the reason you get up in the morning.   Something interesting that I found from this book is the usage of the word 'antifragility'. We know that fragile means when there is external force, something breaks. Resilient means when a thing is harmed, it is able to withstand without weakening. But what about things that get stronger when being harmed? *wow* So Professor Nassim Nicholas Taleb proposed the word 'antifragile'. Antifragility is beyond resilience or robustness. The resilient resists shock and stays the same; the antifragile gets better.   T he Japanese practiced Kintsugi ; an art of fixing broken pottery with golden or silver powder, thus making the repaired one is better than before. There is no need to replace or disguise the ...

BOOK REVIEW

NEGERI PARA BEDEBAH DAN NEGERI DI UJUNG TANDUK  When I went to Bandung, I did a book hunting of Tere Liye's at Gramedia Bandung. I managed to buy 12 Tere Liye's novels and 1 book from Hanum Salsabiela & Rangga. 2 of Tere Liye's novels that are my favourite are Negeri Para Bedebah and Negeri Di Ujung Tanduk. So here is my review on those books. 1) Negeri Para Bedebah I think now I can say what is my favourite genre of a storybook/novel. That is 2S : suspense and speed ! In this book, the main character is Tommi/Thomas, who is a financial consultant. He is ideally a gentleman who loathes corruption due to his past family history. He especially hates his Om Liem, the uncle that caused the death of his parents. But, the blood is thicker than the water so family always comes first. He mightily saves his uncle's life and Bank Semesta eventhough his uncle is involved in corruption. In Malay, the saying of "menjilat ludah sendiri" applies here. He could go a...
