Last Breath

Salam

Have you ever wonder how your last breath will be like?

How you gonna face the last breath of your loved ones?

Since starting clinical year officially in November, I have experienced knowing that a soul has departed from a body. I was on call on that Sunday night, for the first time seeing a pleural tapping procedure at 9pm was done. The next morning, at 11am the doctor told us that the patient had poor prognosis and when we went to the ward, she was already gone. It was brief. Within one night, anything can happen.

The patient actually had ascites due to liver metastases. When the pleural tapping was done, it was therapeutic for a while. However, at 4am the patient developed the symptom again together with shortness of breath. Since then, the doctor knew that the prognosis was uncertain.

Tonight, I saw another scenario where doctors were doing bagging to the patient. All family members of the patient were along the corridor. MOs and specialist were busy contacting other department, explaining the situation to the family and treating the patient. I could see that they were doing their best to provide maybe the last treatment for her. Eventhough it's not working, nevertheless it alleviated the symptoms.

Tonight was a rainy night. There was thunder but it was soft. The raindrops were dancing to the rhythm of the nature. Breezy and cold.

Our existence may be insignificant to others. But in the eyes of Our Creator, we are the perfect creation. Prove that to our Lord. We may be small, but can produce big impact to those around us.
